  • Looking for a worship leader!

I decided I should post something to xanga, but instead of the usual, "Oh, I can't believe I haven't been on since May of 2008", I opted to write something else, while still subtly pointing out the last time I was one. Clever, yes-no?

So I'm currently the worship leader for Calvary Chapel of Crook County, in Prineville, Oregon. I've been here for over three years now, and I've had the opportunity to develop the worship band during that time. Now, however, we are wanting to expand the worship ministry to include another worship leader, but there isn't one to be found within our church. (Crazy, I know!) So I've been trying to figure out how to do that by finding someone from outside of our church .When I moved here, I was living in Arizona and I came up here with the promise of 400 bucks a month, and a place to stay. Since then, I've gotten married, gone full time at the church, and have been well taken care of by the Lord. But when I was moving up here, there were a few people who were telling me that it was a foolish move. I just believed that the Lord was calling me here, so I went in faith. I came up with a guitar, a duffel bag, and a backpack. I kind of feel like Jacob when he left home with pretty much nothing, and returned extremely blessed.
So what I've figured out is, I need to find someone who is willing to do much the same thing that I did. Willing to relocate to central Oregon to lead worship, and willing to do so without the promise of much.

So, if you've been sitting around saying, "Golly, I sure love Jesus and I love leading worship. I just wish I had a place to do that.... perhaps central Oregon?", or you know someone who has, please let me know. PLEASE?

    Livin' La Vida Oregon

Hey, for those of you who don't know, and who actually take the time to read this, I live in a little state, affectionately referred to as "Oregon". In this alleged "state", we have another lil' something called, "Weather". Furthermore, our weather has been a little on the erratic side, lately. (Not to be confused with erotic. Not really sure what would qualify as erotic weather, and I don't think I want to know.) Lately, it's been as warm as 72 degrees on one day, then it starts snowing on the next. If there's one thing Hollywood has taught me from such deeply scientific films as, "The Day After Tomorrow", it's that, sometimes global warming can, in fact, 'cause global cooling.
This would only make sense, right? I mean, the hotter something gets, the colder it becomes, right? What's that you say? That doesn't make sense at all? Hmm, you may be on to something there. How very shrewd of you!

Well, whatever the case, one thing is for certain: I want it to be warmer here! And not just for a day. I'm talking like, three or even 4 days in a row!

I suppose I should just enjoy it while I can. I'm gonna be spending a week in Mexico, leading worship for this thing called A.V.I.D., which stands for, "A Voice In the Desert". It's meant to be kind of like A Vision for Life, which they do at the Hungary Bible college campus, only ours is in Mexico. My pastor kind of had it on his heart to do it, so he got a few more pastors involved, and now we have a full-blown, month long event. I'm looking forward to it.

    ...End Transmission.

  • Church tonight...

Tonight I taught our Wednesday night service at church. (For those who were unaware, I'm the worship guy for Calvary Chapel of Crook County, in Prineville, Oregon.)  Ryan, the pastor, was at a pastors conference in Portland.

Anyway, I taught on James 4:1-10, which is all about pride and humility, and how they determine who or what  you worship.
Short and simple, those who want to worship creation (the world) instead of God, the creator, will be marked by pride, which is really the root of all other sin. In contrast, those who are true worshipers of God will be marked with humility.
Under the umbrella of humility are traits like love, kindness, and submission to God.
Under Pride is selfishness, narcissism, arrogance, and resistance to God.

In preparing for the message, and after it, I think I came away feeling the most convicted. I don't want to be a Christian in word only, I want my life to line up. Especially my spiritual life. The whole study forced me to examine my heart. What fruit is my life marked by? We all need to ask ourselves that question.

What fruit is your life marked by? Are you full of pride? Are you unwilling to confess your sin and repent? Are you resistant to correction. Or are you full of grace, love, and kindness? Are you willing to deal with your sin when the Lord confronts you with it, no matter what method, or person, He uses to bring it to your attention?

Those can be very tough questions to answer, but if we are willing to take the hard look at ourselves that is required to get to the truth, I believe we're leaning toward a humble heart; one willing to yield.

  • "Love and Marriage, love and marriage, they go together like a..."

So, due to xanga's apparently effective "will you come back to us" campaign, here I am.
So yadi yada yada, it's been so long, etc, etc, etc.... You know the drill.

I suppose for those of you interested, I should put something about my life up here.

Well, my wife Alycia and I are quickly approaching our 2 year anniversary. No longer will I get to say, "Still crazy after these YEAR" (get it? It's funny! It's okay to laugh.) May 27th is the big day... or I guess I should say, it is the day we celebrate the big day of when we got married. YES, nearly two years of wedded bliss! And I have to tell you, I love her more every day. And I hate to sound like I'm bragging, but I think we have a strong marriage, especially in light of the fact that it hasn't even been 2 years.

We were talking about this the other night, kind of in awe of God's faithfulness in our marriage. If I'm honest, I have to tell you, it is truly because of the grace of God. He is faithful to work in my heart and my wife's heart, and it has brought us closer together.

I don't want to give off any illusion that I'm some spiritual giant, 'cause I'm not. That was actually part of the topic of the previously mentioned conversation with my wife. I feel like an ordinary guy, with a simple faith. My wife feels the same way about her self. The only thing spectacular about us is Jesus. He has redeemed us, and He is continually refining us.

If there is one piece of advice that we could give to married couples, both young and old, it would be to have Jesus at the center of your marriage. It's a continual process, and we're still in the middle of it ourselves.

With all that said, I just realized that I really need to update my sites look.

What I'm about

  • I'm 26, married to my beautiful wife, Alycia, and I like to sing and play the guitar. I also like to study and teach the Bible. I chose the name AmongSeven for my website because it is the name of my "band". We take it from Revelation, where it says Jesus is the one walking among the seven golden lampstands. We then discover that the seven lampstands represent the seven churches. Within these churches we see seven kinds of believers. If we believe in Christ as our Savior, and we put our faith in Him, then we innevitably will fall under one of the those seven categories at some time in our Christian walk. I pray that I would either be like Smyrna or Philidelphia, but I know that I am more often like Ephesus, or one of the other four who lose site of the eternal, and get their eyes on the temporal. But thanks be to God for the great gift of His Son, Jesus, who washes me, and is changing me to be more like him every day.
